On the 17-18 August 2024, the Adelaide Microsurgical Skull Base Anatomy Symposium brought together a distinguished group of neurosurgeons, radiologists, and medical experts for an intensive two-day event dedicated to advancing the management of skull base conditions. The symposium, which featured a mix of engaging discussions and hands-on workshops, provided a vital platform for professionals to exchange knowledge, refine techniques, and foster collaboration across disciplines.

The event catered to both training and practising neurosurgeons, with a focus on integrating the latest research and surgical advancements to improve patient outcomes. Throughout the two days, attendees explored cutting-edge surgical techniques, radiological anatomy, and emerging therapies for treating skull base tumours and other complex conditions.

Day 1 kicked off with an exciting combination of interactive workshops and thought-provoking presentations. Experts from around the world presented the latest advancements in minimally invasive techniques, surgical instrumentation, and imaging technologies that are transforming the way skull base surgeries are performed.

Day 2 continued the momentum, featuring more practical workshops and detailed presentations, emphasising the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration in surgical practice. World-renowned experts guided participants in refining their skills and directly applying new techniques in a collaborative setting. The integration of radiology, surgical instrumentation, and surgical practice was a defining feature, underscoring the importance of a holistic approach to skull base surgery.

Hands-On Workshops were a standout feature of the symposium. By providing delegates with the tools and skills to translate knowledge into clinical practice, the workshops empowered participants to enhance patient safety and improve surgical outcomes. The neurosurgical trainees praised these sessions for the rare and invaluable opportunity it provided them to gain practical skills in the specialised field of skull base surgery.

The success of this event highlights the growing importance of such educational forums in advancing neurosurgical practices and improving care for patients with complex skull base conditions. Participants left the symposium with renewed insights into the evolving landscape of skull base surgery and a commitment to ongoing innovation and collaboration to improve patient outcomes.
