SA brain tumour researchers to benefit from new laboratory equipment thanks to generous donation from Brave for Dave
The UniSA Centre for Cancer Biology is now home to a new blood analyser thanks to a generous donation from Brave for Dave. This new equipment will support current brain tumour immunotherapy studies by analysing the number of immune cells in blood samples. The new VETSCAN HM5 Haematology Analyser will increase research capacity by only requiring small volume samples, providing more comprehensive results than previously available and in less than 5 minutes, a process that previously took 4 hours!
We would like to thank the Brave for Dave community for their incredible support. Brave for Dave was created by Chloe Drogemuller-Fiebig in honour of her husband Dave, who passed away from Stage IV Glioblastoma in July 2022.
On Saturday 13 May, Professor Stuart Pitson and Dr Briony Gliddon welcomed Chloe and her family into the CCB Molecular Therapeutics Lab to thank them and provide a live demonstration of the analyser in action. Both expressed their extreme gratitude to Chloe and Brave for Dave, and the incredible difference the machine will make to brain tumour research in SA.
“This new equipment will be a huge benefit in our research to develop better immunotherapies
for brain tumour treatment. We really appreciate the support from Chloe and Brave for Dave to
help us advance our research.” said Dr Briony Gliddon, Co-Head of the Brain Tumour Research
Group at the Centre for Cancer Biology.
Chloe is continuing the fight to support brain tumour patients and their families, and we encourage you to attend the upcoming Brave for Dave Go Grey in May Netball Round or donate to help fund vital brain tumour research here
