Donald Simpson Neuroscience Scholarship Applications Now Open
The NeuroSurgical Research Foundation (NRF) is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the 2025 Donald Simpson Neuroscience Scholarship.

Purpose
The purpose of the DSNS is to advance the research skills of a junior neuroscientist with an emphasis on attending neuroscience conferences in Australia or New Zealand.
To be eligible for the DSNS the applicant must be a Higher Degree Research student or Early-career research staff (less than 5 years since PhD) in a university in South Australia, involved in research into neurosurgical diseases.
Time Lines
Applications for DSNS will open 1st March and must be submitted by the closing date of 30th April to the NRF,
Eligibility criteria
To be eligible for the DSNS the applicant must be a Higher Degree Research student or Early-career research staff (less than 5 years since PhD) in a university in South Australia, involved in research into neurosurgical diseases.
The purpose of the DSNS is to advance the research skills of a junior neuroscientist with an emphasis on attending neuroscience conferences in Australia or New Zealand.
Recipients will be required to provide a written report to the NRF within 3 months of the conclusion of their travel or project on the impact the DNS had and how it supported their training or research. Approximately $1,000 to $5,000 per applicant will be avaliable.
Application Process
Applicants will be required to provide a written statement (maximum 1,000 words) outlining:
- CV
- academic achievements
- the nature and dates of the conference
- a budget recommended amount $1,000 to $5,000
- how the scholarship will enhance the applicant’s research skills and knowledge
- current employment arrangements.
In addition to providing a personal written statement‚ the applicant must provide the names of two referees.
The DSNS will be awarded on the basis of meeting the eligibility criteria, the written statement and references. The selection panel and the Board of the NRF may award one or more scholarships, depending on the finances available.
