DMNS 2024

Purpose

The purpose of the DMNS is to advance the clinical skills or research skills of an early career neurosurgeon with an emphasis on overseas contact by encouraging trainees and newly graduated neurosurgeons to travel:

  • to attend major overseas meetings linked with a period of observation or work in overseas neurosurgical units or research facilities
  • to learn new surgical skills and techniques
  • to an overseas laboratory to expand and collaborate on research work for 1-3 months
  • to attend a skills course not available in ANZ
  • Up to $20,000 available.

Applications for DMNS will open April and must be submitted by the closing date of 1st July to the NRF,

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for the DMNS the applicant must be an accredited neurosurgical trainee in the RACS training programme or a recent graduate of that programme namely within 4 years of gaining the FRACS in neurosurgery. Some connection with South Australia is preferred but not essential.

Projects that would not be suitable include attendance at an overseas meeting (unless it was linked to clinical or lab visit), capital expenditure on lab or clinical equipment, employment of research assistant.
